Are these cloud-based social-feed enterprise disrupters boxing in Microsoft Sharepoint?

Robert Scoble Blog - May 23, 2009

SocialWok is doing some interesting stuff with the Google ecosystem. I met up with them in the hallway at Google IO and I came away from the meeting wondering if they will stay an independent company for very long. Why? Because they are doing the most interesting thing to bring Google's datatypes into your work. Worse yet for Microsoft, I'm seeing that a range of companies are building a wall around Microsoft's Sharepoint and limiting its ability to grow, at best and potentially taking market share away from Ballmer's Microsoft....

The NextWeb - May 19, 2010

As the Google I/O machine is just firing up, Seesmic and Socialwok announced a partnership with a Socialwok plugin for Seesmic.
Rather than developing a desktop client themselves, and continue to proliferate the too many active browser windows and two many communications apps open problem, the Seesmic integration allows Socialwok to come to market faster and on a consolidated platform. Users can view and interact with their Socialwok network stream alongside Twitter and Facebook. You can post new status updates and access shared content including Google Docs and download files directly to your desktop that were shared via Socialwok...

Building a cloud sharing service one Google technology at a time

Google Code Blog - May 17, 2010

Socialwok is built using a wide range of Google technologies like Google App Engine Java, Google Web Toolkit (GWT) and Google Data APIs. It also utilizes HTML5 and open standards based social protocols like PubSubHubub, ActivityStrea.ms, Atom, OpenID, and OAuth.
I would like to share with you some of the cool stuff we have built using this technology stack and our experiences with building Socialwok on the Google Platform....

If you're attending Google I/O 2010, you can chat with us about Google App Engine, GWT, Google Apps Marketplace, or any other of the technologies described here in the Developer Sandbox on May 19 and 20. Socialwok Adds A Collaboration Platform To Microsoft Outlook

Techcrunch - 15 May 2010

Socialwok, a product that ads a social layer to Gmail and other Google products, is spreading its wings beyond the search giant to Microsoft land. Today, the startup, which launched its Google Apps-focused product at TechCrunch50 last year, is rolling out the Socialwok Social Connector for Microsoft Office Outlook 2010, 2007, 2003.
Similar to the layer that Socialwok creates for Google Apps and Gmail, the connector allows Outlook users to create a private social network within the application to share ideas, emails, files, Office documents from Microsoft Word, Google Docs and other rich media using status updates....

Of course, it's interesting to see Socialwok playing nice with Microsoft products considering the startup has mainly tied its application to Google products. Not only was Socialwok was chosen as one of the showcase companies for AppEngine technology at this year's Google IO Developer Sandbox but Socialwok was just integrated as a pilot partner in Google's recently launched Google Apps Marketplace....

Socialwok: Project Management for Google Apps

WebWorkerDaily - Apr 20, 2010

The concept behind Socialwok is a good one: leverage the power of the Google Apps mail, documents, calendar and instant messaging functions to let companies and organizations create interactive discussion timelines.
Socialwok builds on the infrastructure of Google Apps to provide document and calendar sharing and storage, as well as real-time notifications via Google Talk instant messaging. Note, however, that your organization doesn't need to use Google Apps to take advantage of Socialwok...
However, if you and your colleagues spend all day in the Google Apps web interface, give Socialwok a whirl. It's free, and definitely has potential.

Sharing and previewing Google Docs in Socialwok: Google Data APIs

Google Apps Developer Blog - Apr 9, 2010

Most enterprise microblogging or collaboration solutions exist in their separate walled garden. Users have to use separate logins and post status updates independently of their existing workflow. From the start, we designed Socialwok to be integrated with the workflow of businesses who use Google Apps. Users can use their existing Google Apps or Gmail accounts to login into Socialwok. They can access all features of Socialwok from right inside Gmail. They can also create and share their existing Google Docs (Documents, Presentations, Spreadsheets) and Google Calendars with other coworkers who are following them in a feed..

How To Connect With Your Co-Workers Using SocialWok

Blackweb 2.0 - Mar 30, 2010

SocialWok is a collaboration tool for business. You can think of it as a business version of Facebook, allowing you to connect and share with your business partners, employees, and management. It's fully integrated with Google Apps and even has a clean, Google-ish feel to it. The simple interface hides a wealth of power that should help your business or organization make things happen, and even collaborate and connect with other businesses...
Because it's a collaborative tool, it's hard to see the true benefits of SocialWok until you actually start using it. If it wasn't for the deep integration with Google Apps and your standard social media websites, SocialWok might have been overlooked much like Google Wave. So, go sign up, invite the people you work with and let us know how it goes.

Socialwok Plans Corporate Annihilation with Premium Features and Microsoft Office Integration

The NextWeb - Mar 26, 2010

Last fall I wrote an article comparing the key players in the enterprise microblogging space. Since writing that comparison, it's been interesting to watch as each services' strategy has morphed and to some degree diverged
I thought then and still think now that Socialwok is uniquely positioned adjunct to Google Apps from both an integration and distribution channel perspective. I was recently briefed by Yong Ming Guang, CEO of Socialwok, on some of their newly released features, and we talked strategy and direction...
Overall Socialwok has made good progress in the last six months and is still uniquely positioned to potentially ride on Google's coattails into hundreds of thousands of organizations. It remains to be seen what impact the introduction of Google Buzz into the Google Apps suite will have on Socialwok, and how successful they will be converting organizations to their paid version.

Apps Roulette #4 - Socialwok brilliantly brings biz-oriented socmed to Google Apps

ZDNet blog Chris Dawson - Mar 25, 2010

Socialwok is the among the first mainstream social media applications that is directly aligned with the ability to get work done. Plenty of companies allow the use of Facebook, Twitter, Ning, and other utilities, as well as a variety of groupware to facilitate collaboration. However, because of its very close integration with Google Apps, the very tool adopted by millions of businesses as their groupware of choice, Socialwok is unique...
Obviously I'm enthusiastic about this tool. The expanded social utility that it creates within Google Apps is quite significant and has the potential to change the way a lot of companies work. This won't be for everyone; many organizations are absolutely not ready to embrace social media within their business processes, no matter how progressive Google Apps may be standing alone. However, for those looking at ways to improve collaboration and communication in a manner that fits with users existing expectations in the Facebook age, then Socialwok needs to be on your very short list of tools that can make this happen

Socialwok Gets More Social With Buzz, Facebook, Twitter

The VAR Guy - Mar 23, 2010

Ming Yong, CEO of Socialwok, the social layer for Google Apps, dropped us a line to announce that his product was getting Buzz - Google Buzz, that is, along with Twitter, Facebook, and RSS feed support. Here's the scoop on the new feature. To me, it sounds like Socialwok's new brings Google Apps even closer in functionality to Microsoft Exchange 2010, which is getting a social media connector. Yong was quick to dispel that comparison, but take a look at Socialwok's guided social media integration tour and decide for yourself ....

Collaboration Platform Socialwok Now Integrates With Facebook, Twitter And Buzz

Techcrunch - 22 Mar 2010

Socialwok, a product that ads a social layer to Gmail and other Google products, was just integrated as a partner in Google's recently launched Google Apps Marketplace...
Socialwok is now a full-fledged Twitter client and allows users to Tweet directly from its platform, as well as track a brand or keywords on Twitter from within the application. Additionally, users can monitor and track updates on a Facebook page. Socialwok is also allowing users to import RSS feeds and share it within a company's Socialwok account. And Socialwok is integrated with Google Buzz, and allows users to tap into their Buzz streams from within the platform and share content in Buzz from within Socialwok.
With the addition of social networking functionality, Socialwok is becoming more than just a collaboration platform. In fact, the application is developing into a full-fledged social CRM, taking on Salesforce's Chatter, Jive, Socialcast and a host of other enterprise friendly social networks. CEO Ming Yong tells me that after the startup's launch on the Google Apps marketplace last week, Socialwok signed up over 4000 businesses to its service. Prior to the launch on the marketplace, 6,000 domains and tens of thousands of users were using Socialwok ...

S'pore startup eyes global Apps audience

ZDNet Asia - Mar 10, 2010

A Singapore startup is setting its sights on a global through the success of its third-party Google Apps product and Google's newly-launched enterprise apps store.
The search giant on Wednesday launched an app store for its online productivity suite, Google Apps. The store, called the Google Apps Marketplace, pools together third-party applications that have been available for Google Apps, aimed at making it easier for IT managers to discover and add new apps.
Yong Ming Guang, CEO of the Singapore startup Socialwok, said in a phone interview with ZDNet Asia that the company expects to expand its business clientele through the new marketplace. Described by its makers as "Facebook for businesses", Socialwok plugs into a company's information contained in its Google Apps implementation, to create a social network through which its employees can communicate.
Yong said Socialwok's team worked with Google for about three months in preparation for the launch of the marketplace. No changes had to be made to the Socialwok interface for the integration with the app store, but he noted that the team put in an additional administrator control page, to ease the setup process for new sign-ups ...

Socialwok takes a stroll in the Google Apps Marketplace

Techcrunch - Mar 9, 2010

Tonight, Google launched its Google Apps Marketplace, an online storefront for Apps products and services. The marketplace is launching with a number of pilot partners (50 to be exact). One of those partners happens to be recently launched Socialwok, a product that ads a social layer to Gmail and other Google products. At last year's TechCrunch50 conference, Socialwok made a big splash, winning the award for best demopit startup and launching its enterprise-friendly, FriendFeed-like layer for Google Apps. The web-based application was praised for launching a social network that wrapped around the very unsocial Google Apps. And the startup just launched a gadget to allow users access all the features of Socialwok without leaving Gmail....

Living in the Clouds: Socialwok

Cloud Ave - January 15, 2010

In this edition of Living In The Cloud Series, I am going to talk about Socialwok, a social networking layer on top of Google Apps for your domains. For someone like me who loves Google Apps because of my love for Gmail, I always wanted a social networking layer on top of Google Apps to collaborate efficiently with my partners in many different countries. So far, I didn't come across something which doesn't disrupt my workflow. When I came across Socialwok, I jumped in reluctantly but I was pretty amazed at how well it has been integrated with Google Apps. If you are a Google Apps user, I strongly recommend you to try out Socialwok...

Socialwok is a FriendFeed for Google Apps

ReadWriteWeb - Sept 15, 2009

Google Apps is an impressive productivity suite. But however good Docs and Gmail are, organizations using Apps are left without the kinds of social software they're used to having outside of work. Singapore-based startup Socialwok is attempting to fix that by offering a social app that lives on top of Google Apps. Socialwok resembles FriendFeed in many ways. The real-time stream of information can include attachments in-line and can be divided into topical feeds. The big difference is that all of it is nested securely under the umbrella of your Apps login...
